Edufolio Faculty Reflections Fall 2004  movie

REFLECTIVE STATEMENT
Description:
This movie was developed for presentation to the Sherman College Board of Trustees to sample faculty reflections and opinions of our new course management system,Edufolio, then in its first quarter of use. I used a digital camcorder to capture faculty testimonials and reflections, edited the footage usingApple's i-Movie and provided the necessary voiceover. As well as making this presentation to the board members, I provided each board member with a dvd of my presentation materials, which included this movie. The movie currently resides on an internal faculty website as a reminder of our faculty growth and use of Edufolio.

Analyze: This movie represents my ability to develop and present assessments of new technology by using a method appropriate for showcasing early faculty experiences with an online product. I chose the movie format to share this information with board members because it allowed for ease of presentation and gave them a “take home” doorprize as a reminder. I was trying to sell the board on technology, by giving them a little piece of technology for their perusal.

Appraise: This movie provided an early look at Sherman’s foray into offering web-enhanced courses. The movie, shown in DVD quality on a large screen, was exceptionally well-received by the board and spurred a question and answer session which ended with a live demonstration of an Edufolio course in action. The strength of this movie is that it provided the Board of Trustees an opportunity to hear testimonials from faculty on their use of Edufolio. The weakness of this artifact is that it was made very early in our use of Edufolio, so an in-depth look at Edufolio’s impact wasn’t possible. This artifact showcases my ability to choose and create a mode of presentation appropriate for live demonstration as well as later accessibility. Shortly after this initial presentation, the movie was also made available to faculty as a record of our inaugural assessments and usage of Edufolio.

Transform: This movie was conceived and created on short notice and represented only a handful of faculty due to the filming schedule. I wish had been able to capture more testimonials. I plan to film more faculty, as well as student testimonials in the future to keep a running archive of our reflection and growth with Edufolio. As we’ve had more time grow with Edufolio, I believe I will be able to ask more in depth questions to measure our comfort levels and productivity with Edufolio and web-enhanced courses. I believe that student input will also be an important measurement in the years to come and that these movies will provide a window for observation into our growth with this important technological enhancement. This movie and future movies will be housed on an instructional technology web site that is currently in development. Giving this presentation to the board of trustees allowed me to express the faculty’s desires toward integrating technology more fully into their teaching. I welcomed the board’s enthusiasm and receptivity to my topic and look forward to presenting to them again as they deal with budgetary allocations for technology.
